PARKING: Officers are currently wading through the suggestions made by residents at the meetings towards the end of last year to work out how to manage the issue of parking in the area. The final figures show that there was a small majority for permits in the Cowley St and Cedar / Sherwin / Longford Street sections, but a large majority against in the roads in the 6streets section of the area polled. It would not have been possible to introduce the scheme even if there had been an overall yes vote as the turnout was so low.
CAR THEFT: There have been 2 arrests for theft from cars in the area. The number of reports through the 6streets website has dropped recently, though not stopped completely. The two suspects have been bailed and are awaiting a court date.
DARLEY PARK MULTI-USE PATH: After the consultation exercise near the park café, it has been decided to proceed with a multi-use path across Darley Park. Officers now need to get planning permission. The planned route goes from the rowing club and is between 3 and 8 metres from the bank depending on trees. At the balustrade south of the nature reserve, it will turn right, crossing the ditch on a new bridge, and then go on a raised boardwalk behind the trees across the nature reserve and past the cricket pitch to finish at the carpark near Darley Barn. It will be 3 metres wide. The new bridge and boardwalk will be made of a non-slip material. If planning permission is granted construction should start in late 2017.
